Why your lash extensions fall out early
Losing lashes after a few days? These are the most common reasons extensions fall out early, and how to keep your set longer.
Some shedding is normal. Every natural lash falls out on its own cycle, and the extension goes with it. But if you are losing a lot in the first week, something else is usually going on.
The most common causes
- Getting them wet too soon. The adhesive needs about 24 hours to fully set. Steam, sweat and showers in that window weaken the bond.
- Oil near your eyes. Oil based cleansers, makeup removers and some eye creams break down lash adhesive.
- Rubbing or picking. Even light rubbing pulls on the bond. Picking can damage your natural lashes too.
- Sleeping face down. Pressure from the pillow bends and twists the lashes.
- Too much weight. Extensions that are too long or too heavy for your natural lashes drop faster. A good artist matches the set to what your lashes can hold.
Classic, hybrid and volume all need the same care
The style does not change the basics. Keep them dry the first day, keep oil away, clean them a few times a week and brush them every morning.
When it is the bond, not you
If you followed aftercare and still lost a lot in a few days, tell your artist. Humidity, adhesive age and prep all affect retention, and a good artist wants to know.
